Embracing Lifelong Learning

Twenty-five years ago, I entered the Vocation, Education, and Training (VET) sector, establishing one of the first Quality Endorsed Registered Training Organisations (RTO) in Western Australia. The competency-based model, grounded in the philosophy of lifelong learning, continues to guide my journey.

Recognising the immense value of “Lifelong Learning,” I quickly secured it as my business name (ABN) and internet domain – lifelonglearning.com.au.

Today, as my business enters its 26th year, the core philosophy of lifelong learning remains unchanged, despite various iterations of the business model. This commitment has been instrumental in both my personal and professional growth.

The Power of Thoughts and Intentions

Reflecting on the path that led to the here and now, it’s clear thoughts and intentions play a crucial role. As Henry Ford famously said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” This sentiment echoes throughout the teachings of many personal development pioneers, from Marcus Aurelius to modern neuroscientists who emphasise that repetitive thoughts form neural pathways. So, ‘we become what we think about’ are six very important words.

Inspired by Florence Scovel Shinn

One of my greatest inspirations is Florence Scovel Shinn, an American artist and metaphysical writer. Her books, such as The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925) and Your Word is Your Wand (1928), propose that life is not a battle but a game. To play this game successfully, we must challenge limiting beliefs and acknowledge spiritual laws.

A New Perspective on Spirituality

Raised in the Catholic faith, I once struggled with traditional religious concepts. Over time, I have embraced a more inclusive understanding of spirituality, aligning with thinkers like Carl Jung and the creators of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). This journey led me to see ‘God’ as the divine essence within us all, guiding us towards our true potential.

The Divine Design of life

In The Game of Life, Shinn introduces the concept of the “Divine Design” – a unique path destined for each individual. She suggests using affirmations to manifest this design: “Infinite Spirit, open the way for the Divine Design of my life to manifest; let the genius within me now be released; let me see clearly the perfect plan.”

Shinn believes the perfect plan encompasses health, wealth, love, and perfect self-expression, forming what she calls the “square of life,” which brings perfect happiness. The Dalai Lama also supports this idea, stating, “We are only on this earth to be happy.”

Recalibrating Our Thoughts

By focusing on positive thoughts and what we desire, rather than what isn’t working, we can recalibrate our minds to connect with our divine purpose. This approach aligns with the practice of affirmations, which train us to reach for better, more positive thoughts.

Lifelong Learning and the Square of Life

So, how does this connect to lifelong learning? The concept of lifelong learning perfectly complements the square of life.

Our logo, featuring L’s forming a square, symbolises this connection.

Embracing lifelong learning has been the cornerstone of my journey, both personally and professionally. As we continue to learn and grow, we unlock our potential, connect with our divine essence, and create a life filled with health, wealth, love, and perfect self-expression.

Join me in this ongoing adventure of lifelong learning, and let’s create a life we truly desire.
