Many years ago I registered my business name Lifelong Learning. I love the idea of lifelong learning; of being a lifelong learner … of learning forever!

We should never stop learning. We should never cease to be enthralled by the ‘stuff’ that life dishes up.

Learning for life is about noticing what’s happening around you. Identifying feelings that are invoked, sharing stories, participating in activities that help you grow, building strategies to do it different, and journaling everything along the way as a record of what was and what is.  All for one simple outcome, to explore Self and create the change in order to be happy.

Screen Shot 2016-06-03 at 10.45.04 pmThere is no dress rehearsal for life. It is about daring to create and live the life you dream of.

It is about creating opportunity to take charge of the life you have, and ultimately doing something different — if you believe you do not have the life you say you want.

I hear you already …

You want to say things like ‘my life is what it is, I can’t do anything about it.’ ‘If it were that easy, why doesn’t everyone have the perfect life?’ ‘It’s not my fault my parents didn’t have the money to send me to fancy schools.’ ‘My boss always gives the good jobs to Pete; I never get the opportunity to shine.’

If you take the time to listen to those statements – go ahead – say them out loud and really feel the words. You will hear they’re all deflecting responsibility outward. In other words, the statements are saying that we have no control over our life and that everything that happens simply happens because that is the way life is.

My question to you is what if?  What if, that’s simply not so?

What if, we are in control and all that needs to happen is to learn to think differently and create belief in our own power?   What if, we learn that life is all about choice and every choice we make; even when we think we don’t have a choice is actually, a choice in itself?

I’ve been exploring these concepts for many years now and have got to say, the more willing we are to take responsibility for life and to be accountable for the roles we play in life, the more likely we are of achieving success AND creating the life we desire!

Being an active and participating player of life, willing to problem solve, open to trying new ways of thinking and being is the key.

Einstein once said ‘It is the first sign of insanity to keep doing the same thing, hoping for a different outcome.’

I’ve come to realise that for us to be the best we can, we need to be balanced and whole; we need to be well in mind, body and spirit.

Being well is more than just being free from illness. While that is definitely one way to look at wellness, it is about much more. It means understanding that life is multi-dimensional and every dimension or realm of life needs to be nourished.   Just as our physical dimension – the body – needs food and water in order to stay alive, so do the other dimensions require nourishment in order to provide over all well-being or in this context, wellness.

So what are the other dimensions?

I have drawn from a standard model of wellness that identifies nine-dimensions.

These are: physical, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual, occupational, financial, creative and environmental.

The model doesn’t have roots with any one researcher; rather it is used as the basis for many wellness models worldwide.

Often, we relate wellness solely to the physical realm of diet, nutrition, exercise and dealing with specific health problems once they are upon us. While healthy eating and physical exercise are important aspects of wellness, exploring the entire seven-dimensions of wellness as a way of being; provides the balance to live the life you truly want.

The nine-dimensions enables you to explore work-life balance, the mind-body connection and build depth of understanding that the work and learning we undertake all contributes to the health and wellness of not only individuals, but groups, organisations and communities.

So … can you have the life you want?  Indeed, you can.

It’s all about you, knowing that life is full of possibilities and you are full of potential.
